Fuel Her Ability to Mother

Providing A Loving Home

Endless Love, Boundless Care

Imagine being a child stepping into the unknown after facing fear, loss, hunger, and uncertainty. In that moment, what they long for most isn’t simply a roof overhead; it’s compassion, guidance, and a steady presence that whispers, “You are not alone.”

At Breath of Heaven, every child receives more than shelter. They enter a safe, nurturing community where love is constant, stability is restored, and hope begins to take root in daily life.

This is the calling of our House Moms and Aunties—the true heartbeat of our mission. They go beyond meeting basic needs, offering the kind of love and care that heals wounds, builds trust, and helps each child step confidently toward a brighter future.

Homemakers, Caregivers, Mentors

Why House Moms Matter

Love of a Mother

House moms & aunties are more than caregivers—they are everyday heroes who:

  • Restore trust by showing consistent love and kindness.

  • Guide with wisdom, teaching life skills, faith, and confidence.

  • Model family by living out patience, responsibility, and unconditional care.

  • Create stability, turning fear into safety and chaos into peace.

With every hug, meal prepared, bedtime prayer, and word of encouragement, House moms & aunties help children to believe in a brighter future.

Spiritual Nurture

House moms & aunties provide consistent spiritual guidance that anchors every child in God’s love:

  • 5:00 a.m. Devotionals – each day begins with prayer, scripture, and worship.

  • Daily Bible Study – teaching children about God’s Word in ways they can understand and apply.

  • Gentle Guidance – reminding each child they are not forgotten, but chosen and loved by God.

  • Prayer & Encouragement – lifting up children daily, instilling hope and trust in God’s promises.

This rhythm of faith provides stability and healing, helping children discover they are not defined by their past, but by the bright future God has prepared for them.

The Difference They Make

Because of our house mothers and aunties, children at Breath of Heaven don’t just survive, they flourish.

  • A once fearful child learns to smile and laugh again.

  • A young boy or girl who doubted their worth begins to dream about a brighter future.

  • A teenager who never trusted adults discovers a steady role model they can finally depend on.

Our House Mothers serve with extraordinary commitment, living on campus for three weeks at a time so that children experience consistent love and stability. They then spend one week at home tending to their own families. Many are widows, carrying the responsibility of raising their own children while also nurturing the children of Breath of Heaven with the same grace and devotion.

Their steady rhythm of sacrifice and love transforms fear into safety, despair into hope, and strangers into family.

Carolyn’s Heart

Carolyn's Heart, is a memorial fund established in Carolyn Orloff-Martinez name and honor to support the house mothers and aunties who sacrifice much to take care of our children at Breath of Heaven Children's Ministries in Zambia Africa of which she cared so deeply. Contributions will be used toward supporting the amazing effort and call of caregiving provided by these wonderful women of glory.

Who Carolyn Was

Carolyn Orloff-Martinez was a woman whose life was marked by compassion and service. As a caregiver in the United States, she poured her heart into nurturing others with patience, dignity, and love. In 2023, Carolyn traveled to Zambia to visit Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries, where she immediately connected with the mission and the remarkable women who serve as house mothers and aunties. She saw firsthand the sacrifices they make and the deep love they give to children who have endured great loss.

Her time at Breath of Heaven left a lasting impression—one that stayed with her long after returning home. Tragically, only a few months later, Carolyn passed away. Yet, the memory of her kindness, her unwavering care for others, and her heartfelt support of Breath of Heaven continue to live on.

Carolyn’s Heart was created in her honor, ensuring that the same spirit of caregiving she embodied continues to bless the women and children of Breath of Heaven.

“The mothers do more than cook, clean, and take care of a house. They love the children unconditionally, just like Jesus”

— Carolyn Orloff
