Aquaponics System

Sustainable and Efficient Systems

Tilapia Farm

The "Tilapia Farm" is an innovative aquaponics system built in April 2013 to provide sustainable food production for our village. This integrated fish and plant farming technique utilizes a closed-loop recirculating water system for raising fresh tilapia fish alongside nutrient-rich vegetation.

Specifically, our farm contains three large 10' x 14' fish tanks capable of producing up to 2,400 tilapia at capacity. The nutrient-rich waste from the fish tanks flows into six carefully positioned 4' x 28' hydroponic grow beds filled with gravel and plants. This natural fertilization process allows us to grow up to 700 plants in an symbiotic indoor system.

As the tilapia thrive and plant beds flourish, our Tilapia Farm generates an abundant supply of fresh fish and vegetables to feed our village community. The aquaponic farming method also conserves water, recycles fish waste as organic plant nutrients, and requires less land usage than traditional agriculture. As a self-sustaining food source, our innovative Tilapia Farm demonstrates sustainable agriculture in action through ecological aquaculture and hydroponic systems working together.
