Hope Clinic

HC Dr Traci with Vidah closeupCaring for Body & Soul, in Jesus’ Name!

Since its inception in 2005, Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries has envisioned building a well-equipped medical clinic to serve the orphans in our care as well as the vulnerable children and impoverished families of Barlestone, the rural community of Lusaka, Zambia, where Breath of Heaven Children’s Village is located.  Our hope that 2016 will be the year we can pour the foundation, raise and secure adequate funding, and finally bring Hope Clinic to fruition!

The Ongoing Health Crisis in Zambia:

Zambia faces an ongoing generalized HIV epidemic, which has been ravishing the country since the mid-1980s.

Though HIV incidence (new cases) has declined by more than 25% between 2001 and 2010, the epidemic is far from over. Furthermore, the impact that this insidious disease has had on Zambian family units, the country’s educational system, food production, and overall economy has been devastating.  Other communicable diseases which present critical challenges for the local healthcare infrastructure include malaria, cholera, and typhoid.

Compounding the battle against the prevention and treatment of communicable diseases is the growing rate of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease and Type II diabetes, thought to be byproducts of this developing nation’s increased access to and consumption of a more “western” diet of processed foods. Other prevalent NCDs, affecting people in all age groups, include sickle cell anemia, certain types of cancers, and chronic respiratory diseases.

Perhaps the greatest problem facing Zambia’s government in 2016 is the crippling effect of HIV/AIDS on this country’s healthcare system. In addition to more than 50% of beds in some hospitals being occupied by patients with AIDS-related illnesses, not only has the number of people seeking medical services/treatment greatly increased, but the costs associated with treating most AIDS-related conditions remain particularly expensive. The result is a notable deficit of available funds to treat other-than-HIV/AIDS-related conditions.

In short, Zambia’s health system has been brought to the brink of collapse, having suffered years of under-investment. Most if not all health facilities are plagued by lack of adequate personnel, drugs, and/or equipment, while physical infrastructure continues to deteriorate. That’s where Hope Clinic comes in!

Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries is committed to doing our part to help alleviate at least SOME of the burden facing medical practitioners and patients alike in the corner of the world where we’ve been commissioned to meet the needs of “the least of these,” in the name of Jesus, who is the Hope of Heaven.

How You Can Help:

Press Here to Donate!

Donate your Resources:

We need to raise $70,000, which should cover the costs associated with building the clinic structure and furnishing it with up-to-date medical equipment, medicines, and associated supplies. You can make a secure, tax-deductible donation of any amount toward Hope Clinic, use the button on this page.

Donate your Time:

Once operational, we will need people with medical backgrounds to serve at Hope Clinic, for two to four weeks a year.  Until then, consider accompanying “Dr. Traci” when she travels to Zambia conduct annual exams on all of the residents and staff of Breath of Heaven Children’s Village.

As with every facet of this Breath of Heaven project, WE COVET YOUR PRAYERS!  We are trusting the Lord to bring in those who are ready to answer His call to the medical aspect of this God-sized mission.  Perhaps He is encouraging YOU to take part?   For more info, please call the office (951-640-8032) or email us at bofheaven@gmail.com.
